Dicarboximide fungicides iprodione, vinclozolin, and procymidone wereexamined for their capacityto inhibit mycelial growth, to cause cellular leakage, and to causelipid peroxidation on Botrytiscinerea isolate BC2. All three fungicides effectivelyinhibited the mycelial growth of the fungi. TheIC50 values were found to be about 2 M for all threefungicides, indicating that the fungicidalactivity of the individual fungicides was almost the same. Thefungicides caused significant cellularleakage and lipid peroxidation on the fungi in aconcentration-dependent manner. Fungicidal activityof the three individual fungicides on inhibiting mycelial growth of thefungi correlated positivelywell with both cellular leakage and lipid peroxidation that were causedby the respective fungicides.Positive correlations were also found between the degree ofcellular leakage and lipid peroxidationfollowing treatment with the fungicides. Our results support theview that dicarboximide fungicidesexert their fungicidal activity mainly through membrane lipidperoxidation and subsequent cellularleakage from the treated fungi. Keywords: Botrytis cinerea; cellular leakage; dicarboximide fungicides(iprodione, vinclozolin, procymidone); lipid peroxidation
