The synthesis of carbon nanotubes filled with silver, gold, and gold chloride is described. The resulting materials have been studied by high-resolutionelectron microscopy, X-raypowder diffraction, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). TheEDS data were obtainedusing a high-resolution electron microscope equipped with a fieldemission gun which allowedfor X-ray analytical data to be obtained on individual particleslocated within the carbonnanotubes using a 0.7 nm probe.
