Pb(II) Sorption under Batch and Continuous Mode Using Natural, Pretreated, and Amino-Modified Ectodermis of Opuntia
文摘
This work presents the conditions for Pb(II) removal from aqueous solution using natural, pretreated, andamino-modified Ectodermis of Opuntia. The sorbent materials were characterized using Scanning ElectronMicroscopy, Fourier Transformed Infrared spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and UV-visspectrometry, before and after contact with aqueous Pb(II) solutions. Pretreated Ectodermis of Opuntia withformaldehyde was the best material for the sorption of Pb(II). The Pb(II) uptake process was at a maximumat pH 5.0, which showed an adsoption capacity that was adequately described by a Langmuir adsorptionisotherm. The Metcalf-Eddy model was used to describe the adsorption data from column studies; the sorptioncapacity was 58.46 mg Pb(II)/g for pretreated Ectodermis of Opuntia with 96% removal.
