The iminophosphine鈥損hosphazene [P<sup>IIIsup>鈥揚<sup>Vsup>] heterocyclic adduct [IPr路PN(PCl<sub>2sub>N)<sub>2sub>] was prepared via reduction of the cyclic phosphazene [Cl<sub>2sub>PN]<sub>3sub> in the presence of the carbene donor IPr {IPr = [(HCNDipp)<sub>2sub>C:], where Dipp = 2,6-<sup>isup>Pr<sub>2sub>C<sub>6sub>H<sub>3sub>}. By contrast, the treatment of [Cl<sub>2sub>PN]<sub>3sub> with the N-heterocyclic olefin IPr鈺怌H<sub>2sub> yielded the olefin-grafted phosphazene ring [(IPr鈺怌H)P(Cl)N(PCl<sub>2sub>N)<sub>2sub>].
