A mathematical model based on the mechanistic approachto the reaction kinetics of pyrolysisreactions and the realistic analysis of the interaction betweensimultaneous heat and masstransfer along with the chemical reaction has been developed for thedesign of smoothly runningpyrolyzers. The model of a fixed-bed pyrolysis reactor has beenproposed on the basis of thedimensionless parameters with respect to time and radial position.The variation of physicalparameters like bed voidage, heat capacity, diffusivity, density,thermal conductivity, etc., ontemperature and conversion has been taken into account. Adeactivation model has also beenincorporated to explain the behavior of pyrolysis reactions attemperaures above 673 K. Thesimulated results of the model have been explained by comparing themwith the experimentalresults.
