AgOTf-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of phenoxyethynyl diols proceeded under mild conditions to afford the multisubstituted 伪,尾-unsaturated-纬-lactones in 55鈥?8% yields. This method was also applicable to the synthesis of 伪,尾-unsaturated-未-lactones. A similar cyclization proceeded when AgOTf was replaced with a stoichiometric amount of N-bromosuccinimide to furnish the 伪-bromo-substituted 伪,尾-unsaturated lactones.
