In this study, we determined the variation of the crystallization region of rubidium titanyl phosphatecodoped with tantalum and yterbium at three different molar ratios of Rb2O, P2O5, and TiO2 in thisternary system. The amount of Yb3+ and Ta5+ that can substitute for Ti4+ without losing the desiredphase strongly depends on the amount of TiO2 in the initial solution. The critical amount of Yb3+ increasesas the initial solution is richer in TiO2. Yb:Ta:RbTiOPO4 single crystals have been grown with dimensionsand quality enough to perform their optic and spectroscopic characterization. The optical transparencywindow has been measured for RbTi0.96Ta0.04OPO4 and RbTi0.95Ta0.03Yb0.02OPO4 crystals. Opticalabsorption and fluorescence of Yb3+ in RbTi0.95Ta0.03Yb0.02OPO4 have been recorded at room and lowtemperatures.
