Standing waves (SW), the long-range modulation of local density of states, were observed for the first time in the self-assembled monolayers of an organic molecule. Self-organization of glycine molecules is driven by the interaction based on the chirality and polarity the molecules acquire on a Cu surface. For the structure with a p(2 × 4) periodicity, anisotropic dispersion relations of the 2D electronic state, with the effective masses of 6.1 × 10-2 and 6.1 × 10-1 me, were obtained by analyzing the SW using scanning tunneling microscopy.
