Synthetic biology seeks to make engineering of complex biological functions more efficient, reliable, and predictable. Advancing the process of engineering biology requires community organization and leadership. As synthetic biology matures into a globally significant enterprise, the community needs to enable a next generation of leaders to organize the field鈥檚 responsible advancement. We discuss key points raised at a community meeting on these issues at SB6.0鈥攖he Sixth International Meeting on Synthetic Biology鈥攁nd highlight opportunities to carry forward the conversation.
