Binary phase equilibria of fatty acids and theirmethyl/ethyl esters in supercritical carbon dioxidewere well-correlated using the Peng-Robinson equation of state withthe functional form for(T) proposed by Sheng and Lu. The substancesinvestigated include five fatty acids (lauric,palmitic, oleic, linoleic, and arachidic), five methyl esters(myristate, palmitate, stearate, oleate,and linoleate), and five ethyl esters (stearate, oleate, linoleate,eicosapentenoate (EPA), anddocosahexenoate (DHA)). Specific general constants were obtainedin the (T) function for thethree families of compounds. In addition, the remainingcoefficients were well-correlated interms of the number of carbon atoms and the number of double bonds inthe fatty acid portionof the compounds.
