A novel dinuclear zirconium sandwich-type silicotungstate clusterof [(-SiW10O36)2Zr2(-OH)2]10- (1) was synthesized by the reactionof a divacant lacunary -Keggin silicotungstate [-SiW10O36]8- withZrOCl2·8H2O. The anion consisted of two [-SiW10O36]8- unitssandwiching a diamond Zr2(-OH)2 core, and each zirconium atomin 1 was six-coordinated to two -OH ligands and four oxygenatoms of two [-SiW10O36]8- units. The Zr2(-OH)2 core in 1 reactedwith methanol to give the corresponding monomethoxo derivative[(-SiW10O36)2Zr2(-OH)(-OCH3)]10- (2).
