Ligands
LX of the type NS
2 with
S-aryl and
S-alkyl substituents which incorporatethe unit 2,6-bis(thiomethyl)pyridine are produced. Their reaction with[RuCl
2(PPh
3)
3] and[RuCl
2(DMSO)
4] produces the firstreported Ru(II)/NS
2 complexes. They present the general formulas[RuCl
2(
LX)L'], where L'= PPh
3 or DMSO. Several isomersare possible; however, only two have been found in each reaction. The
1H NMR spectra show that theH
aH
bproton atoms of thepyridine-CH
aH
b-thioether unit arenonisochronous. A
(H
aH
b) valueclose to 1 ppm isobserved for the
cis complexes while this is smaller for the
trans analogues. The possible distinct isomersarediscussed in terms of steric effects. It is hypothesized that the
trans-dl, the
trans-meso,and the
cis-meso-E wouldbe the structures more favored. Those structures have beenconfirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis of
trans-dl-[RuCl
2(
L1)(DMSO)]·0.5MeOH,
cis-[RuCl
2(
L5)(PPh
3)]·CH
2Cl
2,and
trans-meso-[RuCl
2(
L6)(PPh
3)]·1.5MeOH.
