Bis-Tr&
ouml;ger's base derivatives are a new family of molecular tweezers. A major drawback to their study is a lack of commercially availableprecursors,
ortho-ni
trocarboxylic acids. A reverse synthetic s
trategy starting from known dini
trodicarboxylic acids, which circumvents thisproblem, is presented. Via this methodology regioisomeric bis-TB derivatives can be prepared selectively, using only common aromatic aminesthat are typically commercially available.
