We introduce a nanoheater structure based on laser illumination of a nanopatterned silicon membrane. We develop a model to predict the time-dependent temperature rise. Simulations show a temperature rise that is much larger and more sudden than in an unpatterned membrane. This effect is attributed to resonantly enhanced heating. We fabricate a prototype device and observe the signature of sudden heating in the optical transmission response.
