Correlating Structure and Function in Organic Electronics: From Single Molecule Transport to Singlet Fission

Advances in organic chemistry have enabled the synthesis of almost any molecule imaginable for high performance organic electronics. In this field of many possibilities, the question becomes not 鈥渨hat can we make鈥?but 鈥渉ow do we guide the design of materials that can be made?鈥?In this review, we address how single molecule conductance measurements can inform the rational design of organic electronics. We also survey recent developments in singlet fission and highlight areas where work can be done to make this process efficient and applicable.
