Nanoparticle based magnetic relaxation switch (MRSw)biosensors offer the opportunity to develop magneticresonance based in vitro diagnostics. Critical attributesfor point of care in vitro diagnostic products includesimple instrumentation and ease of use. To this end, high-resolution biexponential analysis was used to permitmeasurement and assignment of two samples with a singleradio frequency detection coil. This approach was usedto calibrate and expand the dynamic range of MRSwbiosensors in a single step. The potential for easy-to-useMRSw-based diagnostics was demonstrated by combiningthe method for single-step measurement of two sampleswith a disposable, plastic cartridge and dried MRSwreagents to obtain a calibrated reading after only twosteps: mix and read. Taken together, our results suggestthe feasibility of developing magnetic resonance based invitro diagnostics that offer extreme ease of use and simpleinstrumentation.
