Three perylene bisimide chromophores were arranged orthogonally to each other within the same molecule byappropriate 3-fold coupling to 10-methyltribenzotriquinacene,a rigid C_3v-symmetrical framework containing three indaneunits oriented at right angles in space. The electronicoperation of the three chromophores was shown to beindependent within the C₃-symmetrical product, and potentialapplications of this novel molecular setup in molecularelectronics are discussed.
