An efficient protocol for the synthesis of structurally diverse(diphenylphosphinoyl
methyl)benzenes is described. Thereaction e
mploys readily available carboxylic acids, chlorodiphenylphosphine,
and water as the reagents. A 97%reduction in the reaction ti
mes
and substantially higher yieldsof products result, up to a 60% increase, if the reactions areperfor
med under
microwave irradiation. The first exa
mplesof transition-
metal-catalyzed reactions applied to 4-bro
mo-1,3-bis(diphenylphosphinoyl
methyl)benzene are also reported.
