Schiff base condensation of N(CH₂CH₂NH₂)₃ and Cp₃Fe₄(CO)₄(C₅H₄CH鈺怬) (1) produces the tripodal triple cluster (Cp₃Fe₄(CO)₄(C₅H₄CH鈺怤CH₂CH₂))₃N (2) in high yield, which can bind a Cu⁺ ion to generate the complex [Cu(魏⁴-(Cp₃Fe₄(CO)₄(C₅H₄CH鈺怤CH₂CH₂))₃N)]⁺ (3) bearing a trigonal-pyramidal geometry. The structures of 2 and 3 have been determined by an X-ray diffraction study.
