Reaction of Os₃(CO)₁₂ (or Os₃(CO)₁₀(NCPh)₂) with C₆₀ in the benzonitrile/o-dichlorobenzene solution at reflux produces Os₃(CO)₅(渭-NCHPh)(渭₃,畏⁵-NCPhC₆₀C(C₆H₄)N)(渭,畏⁴-C₆₀) (2) and Os₃(CO)₄(NCPh)(渭-NCHPh)(渭₃,畏⁵-NCPhC₆₀C(C₆H₄)N)(渭,畏⁴-C₆₀) (3), bearing an unprecedented fullerodiketimide ligand from 1,4-addition of two benzonitrile molecules to the C₆₀ cage.
