A novel fluorite-related superlattice structure compound Bi
17V
3O
33 has been synthesizedby a hydrothermal method. The content of vanadium and the base concentration in thereaction systems play important roles in the formation of the product. Bi
17V
3O
33 crystallizesin the tetragonal system with cell parameters
a = 1.227(6) and
c = 1.104(7) nm. Its structureis consistent with a
5 ×
5 × 2 superlattice based on a fluorite subcell. Bi
17V
3O
33 showsa structural transformation at 802
C, and the transformed phase, which keeps the mainframework structure, is stable until melting at 910
C. The conductivity of Bi
17V
3O
33 andthe transformed phase are 2.14 × 10
-4 and 1.03 × 10
-3 S·cm
-1 at 500
C, respectively.
