Hydrothermal Synthesis, Characterization, and Ionic Conductivity of Vanadium-Stabilized Bi17V3O33 with Fluorite-Related Superlattice Structure

A novel fluorite-related superlattice structure compound Bi17V3O33 has been synthesizedby a hydrothermal method. The content of vanadium and the base concentration in thereaction systems play important roles in the formation of the product. Bi17V3O33 crystallizesin the tetragonal system with cell parameters a = 1.227(6) and c = 1.104(7) nm. Its structureis consistent with a 5 × 5 × 2 superlattice based on a fluorite subcell. Bi17V3O33 showsa structural transformation at 802 C, and the transformed phase, which keeps the mainframework structure, is stable until melting at 910 C. The conductivity of Bi17V3O33 andthe transformed phase are 2.14 × 10-4 and 1.03 × 10-3 S·cm-1 at 500 C, respectively.
