Conformationally flexible NUPHOS-type diphosphines have been resolved as theirdiastereopure platinum BINOLate complexes 
fchars/delta.gif" BORDER=0 >- and fchars/lambda.gif" BORDER=0 >-[(NUPHOS)Pt{(S)-BINOL}] and thecorresponding enantiopure Lewis acids fchars/delta.gif" BORDER=0 >- and fchars/lambda.gif" BORDER=0 >-[(NUPHOS)Pt(OTf)2], being generated byprotonation with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, act as highly efficient catalysts for the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction of nonactivated conjugated dienes with aryl glyoxals and glyoxylateesters, giving ee's as high as 99%.
