The Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of 7-anti-piperidino,5-endo-biphenyl-4-ylmethoxy substituted norbornan-2-one was developed to provide a robust, reproducible process formanufactureof the regioisomeric lactone which results from migrationofthe bridgehead carbon atom. Yields of 60-63% theorywereobtained in a 2250 L plant.
