Samples of methamphetamine, prepared according to themost common synthetic pathways, were submitted tonatural-abundance ²H NMR spectroscopy. The deuteriumcontent at the various sites of the molecule was found todepend on its synthetic history. The technique providesa chemical fingerprint of methamphetamine samples andcan give hints to trace back the starting materials and thesynthetic procedures.
