A supramolecular thiophene host system showing solid-state fluorescence has been prepared by using chiral (1R,2S)-2-amino-1,2-diphenylethanol and two basic types of thiophene acid derivatives. This host system has a chiral 2₁-helical columnar structure and channel-like cavities formed by the self-assembly of 2₁-helical columns; guest molecules are included in these cavities.
