A PhIO/Bu₄NI-mediated oxidative cross-coupling reaction between enamines and propargylamines under metal-free conditions has been developed. Bu₄NI works as an activator of PhIO. The resulting coupling products are ready to undergo copper(II)-mediated electrophilic cyclization to form highly substituted 3-pyrrolines.
