Formation Mechanism and Morphology of 尾-Transcrystallinity of Polypropylene Induced by Two-Dimensional Layered Interface

The 尾-nucleated polypropylene (尾-PP) and polypropylene (PP) were coextruded to form the alternating layered structure with different layer number. During the isothermal crystallization of layered samples at 130 掳C, the high-density 尾-nuclei at the two-dimensional layered interfaces between 尾-PP and PP layers grew asymmetrically. In the 尾-PP layer, the growth of 尾-lamellae was quickly terminated by other 尾-spherulites. In the PP layer, because the formation of 伪-crystals delayed, all 尾-lamellae could freely grow perpendicular to the interface and finally form the 尾-transcrystallinity (尾-TC) layer with about 25 渭m thickness. If the thickness of PP layer was lower than 50 渭m, PP layer would be almost occupied by 尾-TC. The ordered arrangement of 尾-TC led to an orientation of molecular chains of 尾-TC layer parallel to the interface. With the increase of layer number, the content of 尾-TC and orientation degree of layered samples increased. This paper provided a simple and effective method to prepare continuous, highly ordered and content-controlled 尾-TC. As a result, the sample with high content of 尾-TC exhibited good mechanical properties.
