In France, public support to clinical research in cancer is implemented through calls for competitive proposals. Research projects are funded by, mainly, the National hospital clinical research programme for cancer of the French Ministry of Health and, for early phase clinical trials of innovative molecules, by a dedicated programme of the French National Cancer Institute (INCa) and a charity, the Fondation ARC pour la recherche. Support to clinical research organisation is provided to networks of centres, investigators and teams: early clinical phase centres and cooperative intergroups, both designated by INCa, mobile clinical research teams comprising clinical research assistants and clinical trials technicians contributing to patients recruitment in clinical trials, and the registry of cancer research clinical trials conducted in France and freely accessible on INCa’s website. This support is reinforced in the 2014-019 National Control Cancer Plan.
