Basidiocarps of Ganoderma lucidum (Leyss: Fr) Karst are of immense medicinal value with anticancerous and immunomodulating properties. During the present investigation, stored basidiocarps revealed presence of nine deteriorating fungal species viz., Aspergillus carneus, A. flavipes, A. flavus, A. ochraceus, A. parasiticus, A. sulphurious, A. terreus, A. tubengensis and Fusarium nivale. Essential oils of 12 aromatic plant species and 3 chemical fungicides were evaluated for their antifungal potential against these fungal species. Chenopodium ambrosioides oil was found to be most potent. The oil exhibited greater toxicity than Bavistin during storage; the oil was able to preserve basidiocarps up to 15-5?days.
