Methanolic extracts from the marine coral Lobophytum pauciflorum exhibited an in vitro amebicidal activity against trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica and were found to cure caecal amoebiasis in 85 % of infected rats. This activity was restricted to the n-butanol fraction, from which three pure compounds were isolated.
