Purpose of ReviewApproximately, one quarter of patients discharged after a hospitalization for decompensated cirrhosis will be readmitted within 30 days. These readmissions have been associated with increased morbidity and mortality, can be financially harmful to the health system, and may be partially preventable. This review summarizes the literature on readmissions, providing clinicians with tools for risk prediction and a taxonomy for preventative interventions.
