The greatest short- and long-term success of treatment for chronic back pain combines manual therapies and exercise therapies. In particular, myofascial structures should be included in treatment. In addition, muscular imbalances should be equalized by clear exercise instructions, as these are pioneers for joint-dysfunctions and recurrence-factors. Six-week canoe-ergometer-training, with at least three sessions per week and an effective exposure time per unit between 10 and 20 min, showed a highly significant reduction in symptoms for patients with chronic non-specific back pain.
