BackgroundAn increasing number of poor risk factors at diagnosis, resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy and disease recurrence, all result in lower survival rates for patients with germ cell tumors (GCT). For these patients high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) is an important curative treatment alternative to conventional dose chemotherapy (CDCT).
