An investigation was carried out into the structure, phase and chemical composition and thermal properties of boehmite, obtained through hydrothermal synthesis. The nanostructure state and the phase frequency were defined. The tribotechnical characteristics and the antifriction, antiwear, score resistant properties of boehmite. The paper demonstrates the possibility of its use as an additive during diesel engine run-in. Recommendations are given for the process of diesel engine run-in with the use of nanostructure boehmite.
