Objective This study aimed at evaluating the clinicohistopathological features and molecular markers of breast cancer in patients followed up at Yaoundé General Hospital in Cameroon during the period from July 2008 to July 2014. Materiels and methods A cross-sectional study based on a review of medical records was carried out. Patients who had an unequivocal diagnosis of breast cancer were included. Molecular markers of breast cancer, Estrogen Receptor (ER); Progesterone Receptor (PR); Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor two (HER-2); nuclear protein associated with cellular proliferation (Ki-67) were determined using immunohistochemical tests. Results Of the 102 patients included, 2 (1.96%) were males. Mean age of breast cancer patients at diagnosis was 48.5±4.4 years. A Breast lump was the most frequent (58%) presenting complaint. The median time between the discovery of the first breast signs and the first consultation was 5 months (1 week to 72 months). An advanced stage (T3, T4) of the disease was found in 71.25% of patients, clinical metastases axillary lymph nodes in 61 (70.11%) and metastatic disease in 13 (14.94%). Invasive ductal carcinoma was the predominant histological type (66.60%). Immunohistochemical tests for breast tumors were performed in 25 cases of which 56% had tumors expressing ER and/or PR, 68 % were Ki 67 positive and 40% were triple negative tumors (ER, PR and HER-2 negative). Conclusion Breast cancer in Cameroon is characterized by late diagnosis, high frequency of invasive ductal carcinoma and about half of tumors expressing hormonal receptors.
