The article analyses the legal framework governing industrial relations in German professional football. It first provides an overview of the player labour market in Germany and its stakeholders. Subsequently, the player licensing system and the employment-specific regulations in the Bundesliga regulations are described. Particular regard is given to the Bundesliga Standard Player Agreement which is the legal centrepiece of industrial relations and illustrates the difficulties of balancing the interests of the league and the clubs on the one hand, and the players on the other hand with respect to the protection of the players under national and European labour laws.KeywordsProfessional footballEmployment lawIndustrial relationsGermany
