The paper deals with the cutting and activated cutting process in six different rocks of increasing strength to give insight into the challenges that mechanical mining machines have to deal with. The investigation was carried out with a single point attack pick on a 1:1 scale at the linear cutting test rig at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology.
