Ambulatory surgery has originally become possible in breast cancer, thanks to an earlier diagnosis of the disease and less aggressive surgery as well as technological innovations in surgery and anesthesia. At the same time, there was an evolution of mentalities encouraging greater patient autonomy. Its development in France is of major political concern. Above its economical impact, the key point is mostly the patient capacity of a better recovery through a more active management. Furthermore, ambulatory surgery is time-efficient, thus fits very well with today’s way of life.KeywordsAmbulatory surgeryBreast cancerPublic health economySurgical and anesthesiological innovations
