Hasseltia allenii is described as a new species from the Pacific drainage of Costa Rica and Panama. It differs from other species ofHasseltia in its long petioles, ovate leaf shape, and glabrous staminal filaments. Data on its morphology, wood anatomy, pollen, and geographical distribution are presented, and a key is privided to distinguish the new species from other species ofHasseltia and closely related genera. The circumscriptions of two of the other species ofHasseltia are modified, and three lectotypes ofHasseltia are designated.
