Background Foot and ankle injuries are relatively common in private orthopedic practices. In most forms of sport the foot is put under severe stress and acute injuries or chronic overload can occur. Diagnostics The diagnostic options in private orthopedic practices are limited; therefore, attempts should be made to make an exact diagnosis by a targeted investigation of the anamnesis and a thorough examination. Rare forms of injury must also be included in the differential diagnosis so that they are not overlooked with the result that further diagnostics and possibly operative therapy must be carried out.
