The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro activities of baicalein, baicalin, wogonin, wogonoside and oroxylin A in combination with cefazolin against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The combination effect of flavones and cefazolin was evaluated by checkerboard method to obtain a fractional inhibitory concentration index. The anti-Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus effect of baicalein and baicalin were compared and the antibacterial process was presented by time–kill curves. It was found that these five flavones from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi could strengthen the anti-Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus effect of cefazolin to varying degrees, and baicalein and baicalin have stronger effect. Baicalein have the lower minimum inhibitory concentration in combination with antibiotic and quicker antibacterial effect than that of baicalin. There was different buckling in the first time interval of time kill curve between baicalein and baicalin showing the different speed of action. In conclusion, this study showed these flavones could restore the activity of cefazolin against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
