Graz University of Technology’s Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management and the Office of the State Government of Styria have already worked together on various flood protection projects. The projects HORST and SUFRI both focus on risk management and minimizing threats, HORST at the national and SUFRI (Sustainable Strategies of Urban Flood Risk Management) at the international level. The flood risk cycle and the Styrian Strategy Concept with its 10-point action plan HORST were developed in close cooperation with numerous representatives of all institutions concerned with the issue of flooding. They reflect the chief fields of action involved in responding to the threat posed by floods, and effectively supplement the Flood Risk Management Plans prepared in keeping with the EU Floods Directive (RL 2007/60/EG) in minimizing flood-related risks.
