Adsorption and Quantum Chemical Studies on the Inhibition Potential of Mannich Base for the Corrosion of Brass in Acid Medium

N-(morpholinomethyl) nicotinamide (MMN) a Mannich base was synthesized and characterized by FTIR, \({^{1}{\rm H}}\) NMR, and \({^{13}{\rm C}}\) NMR. The high corrosion inhibition efficiency of N-(morpholinomethyl) nicotinamide (MMN) on brass in 1 M HCl solution was reported using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry methods. The corrosion mechanism of MMN was explained by some parameters like free energy, entropy, and enthalpy. The maximum inhibition efficiency of MMN was found to be 93.16 % at \({60 ^{\circ}{\rm C}}\). Polarization measurement reveals that MMN acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. Thermodynamic parameter implies that MMN obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The high corrosion inhibition efficiency was proved by quantum chemical indices using density functional theory and surface morphology using SEM.
