The effect of Mg doping on the phase, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of SrLa4Ti5O17 ceramics was investigated. For this purpose, Mg-doped SrLa4Ti5O17 ceramics were processed via a conventional mixed oxide solid-state reaction route. X-ray diffraction revealed the formation of single phase (A5B5O17 and/or A4.5B4.5O16.5) ceramics at x = 0.0, 0.5 and 1, and a mixture of A5B5O17 and A4.5B4.5O16.5-type compounds at x = 0.25 and 0.75. The sintered microstructure of x = 0.25–0.75 samples comprised relatively more pores/voids. The relative permittivity and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency decreased with an increase in Mg concentration. The optimum microwave dielectric properties (i.e. ε r ~ 28, Q × f o ~ 13,367 GHz and τ f ~ +6.7 ppm/°C) were observed for the x = 0.75 composition i.e. Sr0.25La4.75Ti4.625Mg0.375O17.
