We have used laser interference microscopy (LIM) to study damage to the membranes of UV(B)-irradiated mouse peritoneal macrophages. As an indicator of the damage, we used the optical path difference (OPD), proportional to the thickness of the object and the difference between the refractive indices of the object and its surroundings. We compared laser interference microscopy and microfluorimetry for studying the state of the membranes of the irradiated macrophages.
