The importance of a supply with energy and non-energy mineral resources remains of utmost importance for the welfare of human mankind. A comprehensive overview on the global production of mineral raw materials is given and the concentration of the production and the concentration on the markets are examined. The links between climate change policy, energy policy and raw materials policy are shown and the contributions of European policies for the development of the raw materials sector are pointed out. The role of the Montanuniversitaet with its strategy for the ESEE region (East- and Southeast Europe) is discussed and finally there are congratulations for the mining professors Fettweis and Wagner.
