IntroductionSevere acute malnutrition (SAM) is a major cause of child mortality worldwide, however the pathogenesis of SAM remains poorly understood. Recent studies have uncovered an altered gut microbiota composition in children with SAM, suggesting a role for microbes in the pathogenesis of malnutrition.
