The phenomena of Early School Leaving affects individuals as well as society as a whole. If adolescents do not continue their path in education after their compulsory education is completed, this entails negative long-term ramifications and high follow-up costs for the individual as well as on societal level. Migrant background is seen in the areas of politics and general public opinion as a risk factor, whereas the systemic integration contexts stay concealed. Though the structure of the educational system or labour market regulations play a crucial role in structuring educational outcomes. Thus the article tries to discard the perspective centring on individual deficits. In logistic regressions based on the 2004 to 2011 Labour-Force-Survey data the question will be elucidated, whether a migrant background is an efficient indicator to pinpoint the risk group at all or merely clouds theoretically and empirically more substantial ones. The object of research is thereafter the impact of the importance of apprenticeship in the educational structure on the ISCED 3 level for the risk of early school leaving among groups with a migrant background.
