Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes of ferrocene-containing unsaturated β-diketones: electrochemical and burning-rate catalytic properties

Ferrocene-containing unsaturated β-diketones and their Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized. Cyclic voltammetry investigations revealed that the electron density of the ferrocenyl moieties was influenced by the coordination, making the complexes easier to oxidize than the respective free ligands. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry (TG) measurements confirmed the obvious catalytic effect of the Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes of (1E,6E)-1,7-diferrocenyl-1,6-heptadien-3,5-dione in decreasing the decomposition temperature of ammonium perchlorate (by 68.7 and 41.5?°C, respectively). The results confirm the Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes of ferrocene-containing unsaturated β-diketones as a kind of potential high-burning-rate catalyst.
