In August 2015, after an extended period of low-intensity conflict, the parties to the South Sudanese conflict came to a peace agreement. In spite of this agreement, power struggles and intense violence persist. At the beginning of July 2016, several hundred people died in combat between supporters and opponents of president Salva Kiir. This article seeks to depict the interests of different domestic actors as well as the influence a number of international actors have had on the conflict.
